Still in the Boise National Forest, Our crew was assigned to burn out the fuels in the path of the fire. Todd is using a drip torch consisting of gasoline and diesel fuel to accomplish this.
Apart from the sense of drama, I really like the way the smoke adds layers of depth and perspective to the composition. The figure and the darker trees to the left and right side give a really nice balance to the shot.

I love this image Gary.........everything about it is so brilliant, the compo, the smoke, the colours....you really get a sense of the unfolding drama at hand. SO well captured. And thanks for the narrative....keep it coming I'm loving learning about the intricacies of fire fighting!

I can almost smell the smoke and feel the heat, a great composition, Gary! This capture takes us to the heart of what is happening. Simply amazing!

I agree with all of the above...perfect journalistic capture. It is heartbreaking, but as I understand it - a part of nature. I'm sure humans push it a little more than it would go - 'naturally'. Tragic.. You've done a fine job on this series...
