How lovely, for a loner, this is paradise...there is water nearby right? ;) for coffee, you know!

@Lorraine: Exactly why I like it. And yes this is one of the few primitive camps that has a working well. Yes most definitely for coffee.
I like the Joshau trees, but those roots are really fascinating. They must be looking for water, moisture, anything, but not coffee.

@Marion: Thanks Marion. Actually those are dead Ocotillos laying on the ground. There are some live ones in the photo. They are one of my favorite desert plants.
What a contrast to yesterday's photo! Nice capture, very interesting Gary!

@Ina: Thank you Ina, yes quite a difference although there are some palm trees about a mile from where this was taken. Just a few nestled in a canyon.
Excellent landscape photo, incredible DOF. Those roots look really thirsty! =D

@Garibaldi: Thank you Garibaldi. What looks like a root is actually a dead desert plant called an Ocotillo. There are some live ones in the photo. Thanks for visiting.
Wow! Excellent. It looks like such a lonely spot!

@martie: Thank you Martie. Yes, it is lonely, quite, peaceful and beautiful. It is one of my favorite places to be.
Incredible landscape, and you captured it beautifully! Very nice composition!

@Betty: Thanks Betty. There is always such great light there.
Are those roots? Wow it's amazing how these tree's and bushes survive out there. It looks a peacefuls spot to gather your thoughts though.

@MaryB: It certainly puts things into perspective, for me at least. My favorite part is the actual sound of silence. The answer to your question is they are not roots but dead desert plants called Ocotillo. There are some live ones in the photo. They are quite interesting.
amazing.... desolate and yet beautiful

@MJ: Thank you MJ.
That's the kind of desert shot I like. It seems to me the desert brings out the structure in everything. Are the higher bushes Ocotillos?

@vu@granby - Wolfgang: Not too much is getting by you these days, Wolfgang. Yes they are Ocotillos and so are the dead ones in the foreground. Thank you for visiting and always with a sharp eye.

@Saeed: Hi Saeed, This is on the border of California U.S. and Mexico. It is part of the Sonoran Desert.
Very well done!

You’ve mentioned somewhere above the sound of silence. That’s what I hear when looking at this. Place to be.
