@Rags: Even worse is the amount of human caused fires we get. @Saeed: Thanks Saeed. @Ana Lúcia: Thank you Ana, I appreciate your comments. @Alun Lambert: Thanks Alun, I enjoy both aspects. @Saeed: Especially if you lose something. Thank you for your visit. Ina from Krugersdorp, South AfricaVery dramatic - intense colors. You have captured it well Gary! 5 May 2008 8:20am @Ina: Thanks Ina. My subject matter is going to be limited so I need to make the best of it. martie from Okinawa, JapanWhat a stunning composition! I love the way those two little bushes are clinging to life in such an environment. We could learn a lesson from them. Wonderful shot! 5 May 2008 8:33am @martie: Thank you Martie, Yes we can. There is always hope. @Craig: Thanks Craig. And For all your visits. Lorraine from Gatineau, CanadaAmazing how fury can be so beautiful...wow what a shot, it's brilliant Gary! 5 May 2008 10:10am @Lorraine: Thanks Lorraine, Yes it can be. Helen from Melbourne, AustraliaThis is one great shot. Fire in Australia means regeneration. There are acacia plants that only regenerate after fire. The heat pops their seeds. 5 May 2008 11:02am @Helen: A good portion of our plants and trees are in the Acacia family also. Thanks for your comments. Natalia from Louisville, United StatesWow! if it wasn't for the danger that fire causes, one could say it's beautiful. 5 May 2008 11:17am @Natalia: Yes at times it is, In it's own way. @mosleh: Thank you Mosleh, and for stopping to comment. Earnest from Oklahoma, United StatesLooks familiar in a way... A long time ago in Idaho our "flashless" seismic shots started a raging fire in high sagebrush... It looked like this and it took a helicopter and a lot of manpower to put out... Which it seemed to do on its own inexplicably. Great shot. 5 May 2008 12:10pm @Earnest: Hi Earnest, I was on a fire in Sothern Idaho last year that went to a million acres. All grass and once the wind took it, it was all over. We have Fort Huachuca here in S.E. Arizona and we get those Range fires from time to time. @Anthony: Thank you Anthony. Betty from New Jersey, United StatesExcellent, Gary! Your shots are excellent examples of your bravery to do this kind of work! Stay safe! 5 May 2008 2:17pm @Betty: Thanks Betty, we take safety pretty seriously. @yiannis krikis: Thank you Yiannis, always good to hear from you. Observing from Chester, United KingdomFantastic report, I can feel the heat. Well done Gary 5 May 2008 4:18pm @Observing: Thank you. When that mesquite burns, it gets pretty warm. vu@granby - Wolfgang from Granby, Québec, CanadaDramatic indeed! (Yes, I'm back from my trip!) 5 May 2008 4:41pm @vu@granby - Wolfgang: Welcome Back Wolfgang. I hope your trip went well. I'll look for some of your snaps. Where all did you go? Pied Crow from Nairobi, KenyaBiblical...I like the way the foreground smoke creates a sort of filter, and makes me think about the smell and heat. 5 May 2008 5:23pm @Pied Crow: Thank you very much for those words. You do feel alot of different emotions out there. Ronnie 2¢ from London, United KingdomLooks like you have a tad more to get motivated about just up ahead. Looks wild, man. 5 May 2008 6:38pm @Ronnie 2¢: Thanks Ronnie, It is a wild ride for sure. The really crazy ones I don't have time for pictures. Michael from Wuppertal, GermanyStunning shot! How about the fire? Was it made by humans? 5 May 2008 6:45pm @Michael: Yes, this one was. We are right on the border with Mexico and at times, smugglers will start diversionary fires. MJ from Delaware, United Statesgreat shot of the power of fire.... 5 May 2008 7:06pm @MJ: Thanks MJ. It's pretty incredible to see. Mandy from Johannesburg, South AfricaThis is a lovely shot. I like the bright green leaves contrasting with the burnt remains and the orange flames. 5 May 2008 7:23pm @Mandy: Thank you Mandy. At times the colors are something else. MaryB from Staffordshire, United KingdomGood grief! that fire looks so intense, I'm amazed anything survived. 5 May 2008 7:52pm @MaryB: Thank you Mary. This one was actually not to extreme yet I agree I don't understand how some things make it through. I'm glad your back safe. Bhavin from Mississauga, CanadaOh no...I hate the see trees like this. But it is a good reminder to us of the world we live in. Excellent capture! 5 May 2008 7:59pm @Bhavin: Thank you. You are correct that it is a good reminder. Graham Russon from Cape Town, South AfricaBrilliant shot, I like the angry intensity of the flames. 5 May 2008 8:05pm @Graham Russon: Thank you Graham. They are not kind. standley from brou-sur-chantereine, FranceExcellent capture. I like the colours combination! 5 May 2008 8:28pm @standley: Thank you Standley. I would prefer more green and maybe it wouldn't get as bad. drphoto from Newcastle upon Tyne, United KingdomGreat picture! (Shame about the circumstances behind it though). Dan 6 May 2008 1:24am amy from Rocky Mountain House, CanadaHoly mother of wow!! I hate to see the trees go up in smoke (yeah, I know it's the fire.. LOL) but it's still so amazing/fantastic/incredible to see the power and fury of fire. 6 May 2008 2:19am DarkElf from Perth, Australiaas much as a depressing sight this is - it is a great photo that really gives away the drama of the situation adn the fire looks really menacing! 6 May 2008 2:32am Marion from Nanaimo, BC, CanadaBeautiful image Gary of the strength and fury of a fire. Pretty mind boggling that mere man can fight such an awesome force. I guess it would be silly of me to say don't get too close, but do keep safe. 6 May 2008 5:42am Sandrine from Cincinnati, United StatesExcellent shot! We can really see the flames. 8 May 2008 1:16am Melissa W. from Warsaw, Indiana, United StatesAnother amazing shot, Gary. The fire and smoke look very intense. 13 May 2008 1:39am |
